Sorting Leaves By Colour
Could Have Been Kindergarten
Today my daughter was supposed to start Kindergarten. In the effort to stay positive during this teacher/BC Gov labour dispute, we created a fun project together.
Nature Walk In The Rain
We started the day collecting colourful leaves. Of course, there were many “puddle breaks” along the way.
Beautiful Brown Snail
This was the best wildlife picture from our nature walk. We also counted eleven slugs and one pile of bear poop.
Drawing Seven Leaves
I asked Jade to draw seven leaves across the paper. This would be a guide to help us sort our colourful leaves.
Counting The Seven Leaves
Jade is double checking the amount of leaves she has drawn.
Colouring the Seven Leaves
Finalizing the map that will help us sort our leaves.
Jade’s Final Drawing
This map will help us count and organize the leaves based on colour. As one can see, Jade is still learning to write her numbers.
Matching A Map Out
Jade has sorted where the colours will be placed.
Sorting All The Leaves
Jade is sorting all the leaves she collected from our nature walk.
Stacking All The Leaves
At the end of the day, I added the leaves I collected from our walk together. All the leaves are stacked and ready for the next stage of our project.
I asked for “Pressed Pants” not “Plants” !!!
All joking aside, Jade and I had a blast at StrongStart yesterday.
StrongStart is a FREE early education program in BC, Canada.
The top drawing is a fun doodle from our pressed plants (shown below).
Jade really loved being in the trails and picking leaves and flowers.
And I really liked drawing from our exploration.
This exercise helped me focus on unique details and shapes of our local plants.
The Mesmerizing Northern Lights
A hint of Arctic air.
It was chilly in Vancouver today.
I was telling Jade about the beauty of the Northern Lights.
I grew up in the Canadian prairies and we’d see them often.
The Northern Lights dance, glow and shimmer across the dark sky.
The Canadian winter brings many moments of creative beauty.
Yesterday, during a family walk, I photographed some ice.
Always appreciate the simple beauty around you.
New Discovery — Galapagos Birds and Toilet Rolls
Little known fact …
These are the famous Toilet Roll Galapagos Birds (image above).
Darwin originally linked the evolution of birds with common toilet rolls.
My wife presented and unearthed this startling, new discovery today!
Remember, DON’T throw away your old toilet paper rolls.
Give them the love, care and creativity to evolve into a beautiful bird.
