Jade created a fun drawing for Grandma and hung it up on her fridge.

Last Drawings Before Bed

Drawing Before Bed / 1

Jade draws everyday … from morning till night. Often, she wants to doodle before going upstairs for story time. I asked her about this particular image. She simply stated, “It is a big loving family.”

Visiting Unikitty at Cloud Cuckoo Land

Unikitty

Jade’s been talking about The Lego Movie for months now … Jade’s gone Lego Movie crazy !!!

Jade still isn’t very comfortable using scissors so we brainstormed a project. She really wanted to create something with the Unikitty character (I had nooo idea what she was talking about). After some internet research, we recreated Unikitty’s home in Cloud Cuckoo Land.

Finally, last week we purchased The Lego Movie DVD … and now I finally “get it” !!!

Awesome !!!

Daddy Skating For The Stanley Cup

Daddy Playing Hockey

He Shoots, He Scores !!!
Jade drew my portrait at the start of the hockey season. She asked about this drawing again during the Stanley Cup Finals. It is now proudly hanging in my den.

The Thrill Of The Stanley Cup
Jade’s early childhood education teacher won hockey tickets, hotel accommodations and a flight to the opening game of the Stanley Cup Finals in Los Angeles. I said Jade and I will be looking for her on the TV during the game. For the first time ever, Jade was actually excited about watching hockey with me. (Yes!!!)

Once Upon A Time …
Jade, like almost all girls her age, is a huge Frozen fan. She is constantly singing and drawing scenes from her favourite movie.

In A Faraway Dark Forest …
When we went to the cinema together, I noticed the movie was based on The Snow Queen by Hans Christian Andersen. I was intrigued and took out an anthology of his writing from the library. With past Disney films, it is quite interesting to note the major changes the studio has made from his original stories (another example The Little Mermaid).

The Villain Appeared … Then Disappeared …
Earlier this week, Wired Magazine had a post about “re-telling” fairytales. It was a thought provoking article and I really appreciated their inclusion and notes regarding Gregory Maguire’s novel Wicked.

If you haven’t read the article, I highly recommend it:

Happily Ever After?
Even though fairy tales are mainly illustrated in simplistic terms (Good vs Evil), I find they provide a colourful spectrum of timeless dialogue between Jade and myself. These interpretive stories are fascinating catalysts to explore subtle differences between ourselves, other people and some of the various perspectives within our world.

Jade says her funny doodles are “rascals” and friends.

Their friendship is based on “joking around” and smiles.

My Happy Little Painter

StrongStart Painting

Jade loves painting at StrongStart. These are her “happy totem poles”.

Rocking Snails

Rocking Snails

Early this morning, I saw an amazing snail during my walk.

When I arrived home, I told Jade all about it.

Instantly, she wanted to draw the snail with a bunch of friends.
